What this part does
Loopers are the curved, eyed arms under the needle plate of a serger that carry the upper and lower looper threads and form the overlock stitch with the needles. The point of a looper is precisely shaped; a bent or nicked looper skips stitches and frays thread.

How to tell if this is the right one

Skipped or dropped stitches on one side of the overlock, thread shredding, a visible nick or bend at the looper tip, or the looper eye worn into a groove.
Fitting it
Unplug the machine. Loopers are held by one set screw on the looper shaft. Fit the new looper and check its timing against the needle before sewing — on most machines the lower looper tip should pass just behind the needle scarf at the needle's lowest point.
