What this part does

A darning or embroidery foot hops with the needle so the fabric can be moved freely with the feed dogs dropped — for darning, free-motion quilting and thread painting. The foot holds the fabric flat against the feed dogs while the needle passes through; using the foot designed for the job is the difference between fighting the fabric and letting the machine do the work.

How to tell if this is the right one

Feet fit by shank type first: low shank (about 12.7 mm from the bed to the foot's mounting screw), high shank (about 25.4 mm), slant shank (certain Singer models) or snap-on (clips to a foot holder already on the machine). How do I know my shank type?

Lower the presser foot and measure from the bed of the machine to the center of the screw that holds the foot or foot holder: about 1/2 inch is low shank, about 1 inch is high shank. Slant shank Singers have the presser bar angled towards you. Most modern household machines are low shank with a snap-on holder.
