Product details
This is a replacement gear listed by our distributor for the Bernina 707 and 717. It is a compatible (aftermarket) part, not a manufacturer-original part.
This list comes from the distributor's listing for this part. If your model is not named, do not assume it fits — check the part you are removing against the specification below, or ask us with your model number before ordering.
What this part does
Internal gears drive the hook, the feed and the cam stack. On many 1960s–1990s machines they are nylon, and nylon gears harden and shed teeth with age. A stripped gear is the usual cause of a machine that runs but will not sew, or that jams at the same point every revolution.

How to tell if this is the right one
Gears are model-specific. Use the model list and the position named — hook drive, feed, camstack, pinion. Tooth count and bore must match exactly; a near match will strip.
Signs you need this part
Grinding or clicking once per stitch, the handwheel turns but the hook or feed does not, or a crumbly feel to the old gear. Pieces of nylon in the oil pan confirm it.
Fitting it
Gear replacement requires removing the base or the top cover and re-timing the hook. Unless you have done it before, this is a technician job — the parts are inexpensive, the timing is the skill.
Questions about this part
Does this gear fit the Bernina 707?
Yes. The Bernina 707 is on the distributor's fitment list for this part, along with 717. If your model is not listed on this page, send us the model number and we will check before you order.
Is this the original Bernina part?
No — it is a compatible aftermarket part made to fit the models listed. It is not a manufacturer-original part.
Can I replace just the one stripped gear?
Yes, but if the machine has a set of nylon gears of the same age the others are close to failing. Many technicians replace the set.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are dispatched from our distributor's US warehouse. We do not hold stock ourselves and cannot promise same-day dispatch; current delivery estimates are shown at checkout, and we will email you if an item is back-ordered.
