What this part does
The hook (rotary hook or shuttle hook) is the rotating or oscillating part that catches the needle thread and carries it around the bobbin to form the stitch. The hook point is finely ground; a needle strike that nicks it causes skipped stitches and shredded thread until the hook is replaced.
